According to the Cute Calendar website, No Housework Day originated in 1987 and it is to be observed worldwide by "people who don't like housework." I cannot believe
this is the first I've heard of it!
While thinking about this holiday observance, I began to wonder when was the last day I did absolutely no housework. I'm not really sure.
Even on vacation, I have probably straightened up the hotel bed or picked up someone's laundry off the floor or wiped toothpaste out of the sink. On rare days when I've been in bed with the flu, I've probably wandered out to the kitchen with the glass from my ginger ale and put it in the dishwasher.
Doing absolutely no housework might actually be harder than one thinks ... but it does sounds like a fun challenge.
Unfortunately, I won't be observing this holiday this year. My plan for today involves not only some minor housework but a little spring cleaning. The dishwasher has been unloaded, the breakfast dishes are done, and the oven has already been wiped out and is set to the "self-clean" mode.
You can be sure, however, that I am already marking this event on next year's calendar.
How about you?
OK I love this holiday and since unfortunately I already cleaned the kitchen maybe I will need to celebrate this tomorrow! You seriously need to come link this up over on my new link-up! The Happy Now link-up :)
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a lot of us should re-assign this to another day this year, Jennifer. Thanks for the invite to the Happy Now linkup. I have had to cut back on some of my blogging activities lately, and haven't been doing any linkups for a bit. I hope to be devoting more time blogging again soon though, and I will be over to check yours out!!
DeleteApril 7 has just become my favourite day of the year! Unfortunately, I've already missed this year. Dishes. Laundry. Beds. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteYes - let's be sure to remind each other at the beginning of April next year, Diane!
DeleteToo late! But I can defer 'til tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteGood idea, Mimi!
DeleteI can do it if I'm sick in bed all day, but that would be the only way. It would drive me crazy not to.
ReplyDeleteI know Rena. Wouldn't it be nice if once you cleaned a house, it just stayed that way ....
DeleteHmmm...can't remember the last time I did no housework! I need to mark this down for next year!
ReplyDeleteWe all need to put it in big red letters on our calendar, I think!
DeleteIt is the 9th here. And on the 7th I had a very busy day in the house. Like you, I don't remember a day with none. Not much perhaps, and not enough often but none? I don't think it happens. Least of all for a woman.
ReplyDeleteI wish I'd heard of this before I cleaned the house from one end to the other.
ReplyDeleteI pretty much did that day too! NExt year!

ReplyDeleteOh this made me smile. All of last week it was all I could do to put that water glass in the kitchen. Laid low with the flu. However, now that I'm finally feeling better I've been making up for lost time. Changed my sheets, swept and vacuumed my bedroom, washed up all the dishes, cleaned Bonanza's (rabbit) cage, vacuumed main floor, combed and combed and combed Poppy ... And a lot of this activity took place on what day? April 8th... (Thought it was the 7th originally so I deleted the previous comment.)
ReplyDeleteOh Kelly - so sorry that you were under the weather. What a sad follow-up to your Erma writers workshop! I hope this week is starting off much, much better!
