Words for Wednesday - How will the prompt inspire YOU?

September is my month to host the "Words for Wednesday Writing Challenge."  Today I am sharing a set of words that I hope will spark your creativity this week.

Creating an essay or story from a prompt is a lot of fun, and can take your writing in directions you would not normally go. Reading a piece written from a prompt can be fun too. Often the prompt words are so seamlessly woven into the story that you will not even realize which ones they are, until you see the list.

Invitation, Words for Wednesday, Word Prompt Writing Challenge

Delores of Under the Porch Light used to offer a weekly writing prompt called Words for Wednesday, and encouraged others to use it to write something creative.  Unfortunately, Delores
began to have computer issues, and could no longer provide the weekly prompts. Elephant’s Child took over for a while, and then she organized volunteers to share the responsibility. Drifting through Life hosted in July, Randomosity in August, and it is now my turn to be the host for the month of September!

How to Participate:

The writing prompt is usually in the form of six (or twelve) words, or a phrase, but may also be a photo, an idea, or anything that might inspire a piece of flash fiction.
There are no deadlines or rules or prizes. Everyone is invited to participate, as often or as little as you choose. Feel free to write a single sentence or an entire story from the prompt.
Publish your work in the comments below, or on your own blog with a link back to this blog post. If you publish your work on your own blog be sure to also leave a comment here. That way everyone can find, read, and comment on your post.
Note: As with any comments on this blog, anything considered inappropriate, derogatory, offensive or spam will not be published.

Here are the words for this week:

classified, mustangs, honored, award, tour, baked
AND / OR

plant, beds, gourmet, tapped, crossword, southern

I plan to use these words to continue my short story about Mindy. Look for the next “Mindy ” segment on this blog next Tuesday. If you missed the previous segments, you can catch up here!

Give this fun challenge a try. I can't wait to see what you write!

I used to wonder how the prompts were selected. Can you guess how I picked mine?

This post may be linked to one of the great link-up parties I follow and list on my blog. Check them out!

    1. I haven't had much computer time the last few days, so I am slow responding to these comments. I will be sure to head over to your blog to read your story today! I have a system for choosing my words, but it is different from yours!

  5. I'm curious too about how others pick the words. I chose mine randomly from whatever book I was reading at the time.

I'll have to get started with these if I'm to post tomorrow. (Your Wednesday is our Thursday)

  8. I love a good prompt, especially when I am stuck with nothing to write. With the above words, my mind automatically went for "baked" and "gourmet.' But that might also be because I'm hungry right now!
